Account for every byte in the root-boundary compatibility reader, preserving descriptor-first recovery and rejecting oversized valid prefixes, multiple identities and discarded NULs. Keep the original two-second fixture budget, contain descendant processes and report build/probe timing separately. Add real-agent, legacy and cancellation controls without claiming a cause for the retained timeout.
