houseme 3420006762 fix(health): bound remote lock online checks (#6737)
Keep /health/ready from riding the generic internode lock RPC and channel keepalive budgets when a peer host is unreachable. Add a health-specific lock online timeout, route ping failures through the existing remote lock RPC eviction path, cache the static ping payload for readiness fan-out, and cover hanging cached channels with focused tests.

Zhengchao An aa56d4b847 refactor(ecstore): make store-to-disk error narrowing named and fallible (#6626)
refactor(ecstore): make store-to-disk error narrowing a named fallible operation

Backlog#1845 step 4. The blanket impl From<StorageError> for DiskError let ? silently push store-only errors (locks, buckets, quotas) across the disk boundary into DiskError::other, where the rendered message fragments reduce_errs quorum buckets. Same story for the blanket From<StorageError> for rustfs_filemeta::Error and its other() catch-all.

Both impls are replaced by named, fallible methods: StorageError::narrow_to_disk() and StorageError::narrow_to_filemeta(). Variants with an identity on the far side map across unchanged - including the two documented lossy collapses (SlowDown -> TooManyOpenFiles, StorageFull -> DiskFull) that the round-trip tests pin - and everything else returns Err(self) so the call site decides what crossing the boundary means. Removing the impls let the compiler enumerate every conversion site; the census that scoped this issue had found 5, the compiler found 33.

Call sites keep their existing behavior: the io identity bridge and the generic sites fold Err into the io-backed other() exactly as the old catch-all did (identity still recoverable by downcast), listing paths use one shared to_filemeta_err helper, and the two sites that relied on the SlowDown collapse now construct DiskError::TooManyOpenFiles directly so the loss is visible where it happens. No behavior change intended anywhere; the io::Error bridge itself is untouched by design.

Zhengchao An c0c208d89a feat(ecstore): type internode client-acquisition failures for quorum buckets (#6619)
* feat(ecstore): type internode client-acquisition failures for stable quorum buckets

Backlog#1845 step 3, first typed family. The largest other(format!) message family in ecstore was 'can not get client, err: {detail}' (~50 production sites): every internode RPC that fails to acquire a client wrapped the dial/auth error with per-peer detail into DiskError::other / StorageError::other, whose Io equality compares the rendered message. N disks failing for this same cause therefore counted as N distinct errors in reduce_errs, starving quorum aggregation, and remote_disk call sites double-wrapped the message on top of get_client's own wrap.

Introduce DiskError::RemoteClientUnavailable(String) (wire code 0x2B) and its StorageError twin (StorageErrorCode 0x54): equality and hashing use the wire code alone, so same-cause failures land in one quorum bucket regardless of per-peer detail, while Display keeps the detail so substring classifiers (network needles, heal recoverability) keep reading it unchanged. Wire encoding carries the rendered detail in error_info and decode restores the typed variant; old peers fall back to the legacy string form gracefully.

Call sites: remote_disk get_client/get_bulk_client/offline-bypass/recovery-probe now construct the typed variant and the ~60 redundant double-wrap map_errs are gone; peer_rest_client's three client getters and offline gates, peer_s3_client, and admin_server_info follow. The tier-config-reload connection classifier's anchored 'can not get client' substring check becomes a typed match on the variant (the string form is retired and now classifies as Terminal, pinned by test).

Zhengchao An 7cac528de3 refactor(protos): move compat manifest send-site assertions into owning crates (#6618)
refactor(protos): move internode compat manifest send-site assertions into owning crates

Promotes the rolling-upgrade dual-write manifest from a test-only constant in rustfs-protos into the public rustfs_protos::compat_manifest module, moves the JSON-encoder send-site assertions into the crates that own the asserted sources (ecstore remote_disk.rs for requests, the rustfs binary node_service/disk.rs for responses), and splits the scanner Phase-0 overlap inventory so its heal- and ecstore-owned halves live in those crates. Adds a cross-crate include_str!/include! guard with fixture self-tests to scripts/check_layer_dependencies.sh so a library crate can never again read another crate's Rust source at compile time, and records the rule in docs/architecture/crate-boundaries.md.

Part of rustfs/backlog#1884.

Zhengchao An 00de43528c fix(ecstore): describe peer bucket RPC failures with no details (#6190)
heal_bucket, list_bucket, get_bucket_info and delete_bucket returned Error::other("") when a peer answered success=false without an error payload, so operators saw a bare "io error " after quorum reduction. Route all five bucket RPCs through peer_failure_without_details, which names the operation and bucket while staying identical across the peers of one operation so reduce_errs keeps grouping them into a single dominant error.

Zhengchao An eb41f45175 chore(ecstore): drop the cluster and erasure dead_code blankets (#6088)
Removing both blankets exposes 23 items, of which only four are deleted. The ratio is the point: close to the core data path the blankets were hiding test assertions and migration seams, not dead code.

A cfg-split function is the reason two symbols in the internode transport look dead when neither is. build_internode_data_transport_from_env has two bodies, one under #[cfg(test)] that calls build_internode_data_transport directly and one under #[cfg(not(test))] that goes through the INTERNODE_DATA_TRANSPORT static so tests do not share process-global transport state. Each half's helper is live in exactly one build, and because cargo check --tests compiles both the lib target and the test harness, both symbols appear in one warning list. Deleting either one breaks the other lane. Both are kept with allows naming their half.

Three deletion candidates were withdrawn after a per-name grep: ParallelReader::new, ErasureDecodeReader::new and SyncErasureDecodeReader::new all have test callers. The last two are exactly the shape of the dead wrapper deleted in #6084 — a thin forward to a new_with_metrics_path sibling — except that sibling is live in production (set_disk/read.rs) and the wrappers are used by tests.

Deleted:

- RemotePeerS3Client::get_addr and RemoteLocker::from_url, neither with a consumer in any lane.
- RemotePeerS3Client's node field, which new writes after using it to derive addr and nothing ever reads. Its only other writer was a test helper that built a whole Node solely to fill the field; that block goes too.
- ParallelReader::can_decode, superseded by an inlined copy. The copy's comment named the method it replaced, so deleting the method alone would have left a dangling reference; the comment now describes the check instead of pointing at a method that no longer exists.

Kept with allows: the erasure items are decode/encode invariants asserted by their own files' tests (shard_read_launch_order, decode_with_read_costs, emit_data_shards, queued_block_bytes, the engine trait facets, the ParallelReader and decode-reader constructors, encode_stream_callback_async). On the cluster side, peer_replay_state, heal_bucket_local and clone_drives are test-only, InternodeDataTransportCapabilities and tcp_http are constructed only by transport test doubles, and the InternodeDataTransport trait's name/capabilities pair is an unused capability-negotiation facet kept for the transport split (backlog#1350) — six impls provide them and no caller negotiates on them yet.

Verification, four lanes warning-free: default, --tests, --features rio-v2 --tests, --features test-util --tests. cargo nextest run -p rustfs-ecstore 4041 passed; clippy --lib --tests -D warnings clean; make pre-commit exit 0.

Zhengchao An 422e0ad768 test(ecstore): fix rename_all WARN flake from callsite-interest poisoning (#5448)
rename_all_missing_source_still_warns and rename_all_real_failure_still_warns
assert that `warn_reliable_rename_failure` emitted its WARN, but that is a
single production callsite shared with tests that call rename_all *without*
installing a subscriber — rename_all_missing_source_returns_file_not_found,
two tests above, is one of them.

tracing caches each callsite's Interest process-globally and the first thread
to reach a callsite fixes that value; while at most one dispatcher is
registered, tracing-core derives it from the registering thread's own
subscriber, and registration is once-only. When the subscriber-less sibling
wins, the callsite is cached as Interest::never() and the WARN never fires,
so the assertion sees empty output:

    ordinary missing-source failures must keep the WARN, got:

Reproduced at 3/25 with `disk::os::tests::rename_all_missing_source` (both
tests), against 0/20 for the victim alone. Fixed by pinning callsite interest
inside warn_capture(), so every current and future user of that helper is
covered rather than just the two tests that happen to fail today.

pin_callsite_interest_for_test() moves from cluster::rpc::background_monitor
to a new crate-level test_tracing module: it is domain-neutral and now has
consumers in two unrelated subsystems, and disk::os should not have to reach
into a cluster::rpc test helper.

Verified: repro filter 0/30 (was 3/25); disk::os:: 0/12; cluster::rpc:: 0/12
and its poisoner pair 0/15, confirming the moved helper still holds.

Follow-up to #5438. Closes the last item in #5439.

Zhengchao An e2257325a2 test(ecstore): fix two cluster::rpc flakes from process-global test state (#5438)
peer_rest_recovery_probe_logs_keep_request_id_span_context failed ~10% of
`cargo test -p rustfs-ecstore --lib -- cluster::rpc::` runs with
left: "request-span", right: "recovery-monitor". The recovery-monitor
info_span! was evaluating to Span::none(), so the probe's log line landed
under the caller's span.

tracing caches each callsite's Interest in process-global state, and the
first thread to reach a callsite fixes that value. While at most one
dispatcher is registered, tracing-core takes a fast path that derives the
interest from the registering thread's own subscriber, and registration is
once-only (CAS). Under libtest a sibling test reaches recovery_monitor_span
via mark_offline_and_spawn_recovery from a thread with no subscriber, so
the interest is derived from NoSubscriber and cached as Interest::never()
for the whole process.

Add pin_callsite_interest_for_test(): registering a second, inert
dispatcher rebuilds every registered callsite's interest against the live
dispatcher set (repairing a poisoned value) and keeps tracing-core off the
single-dispatcher fast path (preventing new ones). This also covers the
production marked_suspect / recovery_monitor_started event callsites that
remote_disk_network_error_starts_recovery_monitor_with_request_context
asserts on.

rename_data_response_accepts_legacy_json_without_decode_error is a
separate root cause: it snapshots the process-global internode metrics and
asserts the decode-error counter did not move, which siblings that record
decode errors (or reset the counters) invalidate. Put the 11 tests that
observe those counters in one #[serial(internode_metrics)] group.

Both races are impossible under nextest, which runs each test in its own
process, so neither test belongs in the ecstore-serial-flaky test-group
(that serializes across process boundaries) nor in the ci-profile
quarantine (they never redden CI).

Verified: cluster::rpc:: subset 0/30 failures under libtest (was 3/30);
target test paired with its poisoner 0/30 (was 4/20); 5/5 clean under
nextest at 179/179.
