Correct the additive upstream merge exposed by source-nj0ja4zv: the accepted unified-read-state regression requires disk metadata with an empty series for collected readings. Restore that contract without historical padding, while retaining upstream exclusion of retained-only disks with no observations and preserving original single-sample timestamps and values.
