Preserve completed OS-info failure or reset state when a subsequent version read pauses. Keep partial identity and observation age unchanged, honour retry backoff, and cover cold/retained caches and both HTTP poll entry points without native guest or backup changes.
Contract-Neutral: Restore existing OS-info negative-cache semantics across version deferral; no public API, configuration, admission, pause or observation contract changes. Dedicated source tests and contract clarification accompany the fix.
