Use existing Unix and Windows token-file installers, verified HTTPS downloads and inspection before execution across setup, retarget, profile and cleanup examples. Exercise private files, all profile arguments, rejected TLS and failed downloads with synthetic guest-local fixtures.
Contract-Neutral: Documentation and executable documentation tests only; installer behaviour, privileges and runtime contracts are unchanged.

Prefer read-only API access, grant Audit to both PBS identities, keep tokens in private files and verify TLS before sending them. Exercise the documented recipes with synthetic tokens, HTTP failures and certificate rejection controls.
Contract-Neutral: Documentation and synthetic recipe checks only; no runtime API, installer, PBS identity or permission contract changes.
Change-source: pulse-maintainer
Replace token and API-key shell arguments with private header and payload files, verify the exact test/save recipes with synthetic credentials, and separate hardware capacity from actual usage and History. Bound local logs and keep sanitized evidence and trusted HTTPS as the troubleshooting path.
Contract-Neutral: Documentation and synthetic recipe checks only; no runtime, API, transport or metric contract changes.

Try both loopback families for IPv6 wildcard listeners without changing explicit or IPv4-only binds. Reserve each family a share of the API deadline, keep all later checks on the responding address, and retry a failed observation once with a fresh bounded budget in the telemetry background runner.
Keep genuine API, UI and asset failures visible and report only a closed timeout category, never transport details. Cover both real listener families, startup recovery, failure and privacy boundaries; synchronise the disclosure and subsystem contract.
Change-source: pulse-maintainer
A missing or zero total must not erase package or severity findings. Require a complete typed zero verdict, retain bounded outage handling for unknown reports, and keep raw metadata out of workflow annotations. Add executable regression coverage and update the installability contract.
Change-source: pulse-maintainer
Use a private header file and an authenticated read-only summary rather than passing tokens in argv to a public health check. Exercise both header formats, file permissions, preserved content and failing HTTP auth errors with synthetic local fixtures.
Contract-Neutral: API authentication, routes, scopes and CSRF enforcement are unchanged; this updates existing usage guidance and executable documentation checks.
Change-source: pulse-maintainer
Render escaped, allowlisted details from the captured audit response instead of making a second registry call outside the wall-clock watchdog. Preserve every advisory failure and outage policy; executable fixtures pin single-request diagnostics, missing detail, transport-error precedence and annotation-safe output.

The script smoke test still required "Pulse Mobile pairing for handoff"
in PRIVACY.md, the wording the previous commit replaced when it removed
the unbacked "secure remote web access" claim. Pin the new description
and forbid the remote web access wording in both copies.
Across the last 25 bot PRs the median open to merge time was about 33
minutes for one PR and about 45 when three opened together. The critical
path was the required Backend tests (api) check, where one go test -race
./internal/api step took about 27 of its 31 minutes. Every other required
check finishes within about 12 minutes.
internal/api now runs as four Backend tests (api-N) shards. Each shard
lists the package's tests with go test -race -list from the commit under
test and runs one contiguous quarter of that list in go test's own order,
so every test, including ones added later, runs in exactly one shard, and
a shard that resolves no tests fails. The split is contiguous rather than
interleaved by name because some internal/api tests depend on package
state left by the tests just before them. A round-robin split by sorted
name failed dozens of tests locally (admin bypass and session store
globals), while the four contiguous slices and the full run all pass. A
Backend tests (api) verdict job keeps the required check name and fails
unless every shard succeeded. Backend tests (rest-0) and (rest-1) keep
their names and package split. Local non-race timings put the heaviest
slice at about 42 percent of the package, so the api check should drop
from about 31 minutes to roughly 14.
Core E2E no longer runs the non-gating probation tier on pull requests.
It could not gate a PR and the promotion rule counts only main runs, so
on a PR it only held each of the eight shard runners about eight minutes
longer, which fed the runner queueing seen with concurrent PRs. Push and
manual runs still execute it.
Go test steps still run for frontend-only changes. Go tests read
frontend sources directly (internal/api contract tests,
internal/unifiedresources walking frontend-modern/src, and the
internal/telemetry repository-wide wording scan), so skipping them by
path would drop real coverage.
A failed update check never reaches the update history, because nothing
was applied, so telemetry could not tell an install whose check is broken
from one that was offered an update and ignored it. The 6.4.3-rc.1 installs
looked healthy while their check failed on every call (#2282).
The update manager now records a closed outcome for every check on the
install's effective channel (up_to_date, available, no_release,
rate_limited, network_error, metadata_error, skipped, error), tagging
lookup failures without changing their error text, and ignores previews of
another channel from Settings. Telemetry schema v18 exports update_channel,
update_check_outcome and update_available. No version, URL or error text
leaves the install. The Settings preview type, privacy disclosure, adoption
report and subsystem contracts are updated to match; the Pulse Pro receiver
change lands separately and the parity check passes against it.
The isolated coverage-v8 5 proposal cannot install beside Vitest 4 because its peer range requires Vitest 5. Ignore only version majors for both packages until a reviewed frontend migration can update and prove the pair together; retain grouped security updates and minor/patch updates.

Keep ESLint 10 and lucide-solid 1.x out of automatic version updates while their lockfile and icon-import contracts fail. Preserve minor and patch updates and guard the rule in Dependabot policy tests.

Rejected active-alert writes still reached history, firing events and
notification dispatch. Make admission explicit across detector and restore
paths so repeated suppressed observations cannot create those side effects.
Reconcile restored alerts when persisted resource policy attaches at startup,
reconcile again after native aliases become canonical, and refresh shared
state before those alerts reach clients.
Preserve occurrence identity when retained alerts re-fire, including durable
history reconstruction and delayed lifecycle replay.
Keep retained table and card components mounted when scrolling shifts the
visible window, so policy editors do not lose unsaved state. Show actual
future maintenance times and the paused-attention effect.
Keep synthetic host machine identities stable across restarts so saved
operator policy remains attached during verification.
Qualify server update and rollback instructions by helper ownership, and
stop signed installer recipes before execution if a download or signature
check fails.
Refs #2237
action_consumer_manifests.json pins each release-consumed action to an exact SHA plus the upstream action.yml sha256, and release_promotion_policy_test.py requires every workflow step to match. Dependabot's github-actions group bumps those SHAs, so every group proposal fails the manifest contract and cannot be repaired offline. Ignore the eight governed actions for version updates and guard the policy against the manifest so pin refreshes stay explicit reviewed work. This resolves the recurring failing actions-minor-patch proposal (#2139).

Advance the managed go-minor-patch group with its required transitives:
golang.org/x/crypto 0.56.0->0.57.0, golang.org/x/term 0.45.0->0.46.0 and
modernc.org/sqlite 1.53.0->1.59.0 (libc 1.75.7, memory 1.12.1, x/text 0.42.0).
All other direct versions are unchanged.
Raise the dev-runtime dependency-manifest floors to the qualified releases and
add the storage-driver integrity floor so a silent downgrade fails. Record the
change in the deployment-installability contract.
The batch is routine managed dependency maintenance, independent of the excluded
6 September SQLite SIGSEGV investigation. The NormalizeSegment benchmark delta is
a code-layout measurement artifact (pure function; caller benchmarks do not
corroborate) and the failed advisory result is preserved.

Dependabot #2100 and #2101 propose TypeScript 5.9.3 -> 7.0.2, but the checked-in @typescript-eslint/eslint-plugin@8.70.0, @typescript-eslint/parser@8.70.0 and typescript-eslint@8.70.0 each declare a peer dependency of "typescript": ">=4.8.4 <6.1.0". The proposals therefore fail ERESOLVE and all frontend E2E shards, with no security advisory behind them.
Add a semver-major ignore for typescript in the npm ecosystem so majors stay explicit work alongside a lint-toolchain upgrade, and update the config guard test to pin both the browser-runtime and TypeScript ignores.
Change-source: pulse-maintainer
A RETURN trap is not scoped to the function that installs it. perform_update
left its trap referencing function-local installer_tmp/signature_tmp (and
service_name/service_was_active) installed, so it re-ran when a later function
returned. With those locals gone and 'set -u' active, the updater aborted with
'installer_tmp: unbound variable' immediately after logging 'Auto-update check
completed' — pulse-update.service entered failed state even though the update
had succeeded (reported #2128, affects v6.3.2/v6.4.1).
Disarm the trap with 'trap - RETURN' on its first invocation, and use
${installer_tmp:-}/${signature_tmp:-} so a stray invocation cannot abort the
script. Add a regression test asserting no RETURN trap remains after both the
successful and the prerelease-refusal paths.

The npm-minor-patch group (Dependabot #2115) has been held since 17 Sep
because it bundles @playwright/test, playwright and playwright-core
1.56.1 -> 1.63.0 with 12 safe frontend updates. The offline
browser-verification runtime is pinned to Playwright 1.56.1, so a lockfile
bump breaks browser-proof parity; holding the whole group blocked the safe
updates instead.
Ignore Playwright version updates on the governed 1.56.1 line, matching the
docker governed-tag policy, so the remaining grouped updates can be reviewed
on their own. Security updates stay covered by the weekly npm-audit scan and
the frontend dependencySecurity proof. Extend the dependabot config guard to
lock the policy in.

The reviewed diagnostic named an ephemeral proposal commit that is no longer fetchable after its branch was retired, so a hosted checkout could not archive the fixed candidate. Use the merged main commit with the identical reviewed tree, retain the original evidence identity in metadata, and require an exactly balanced AB/BA contract.
Change-source: pulse-maintainer
The completed local study did not explain the adverse hosted root comparison. Add an exact-source root-only collector with matched builds, ten alternating samples and retained layout and host evidence, rather than repeat full qualification or relax its threshold. Eight focused mocked collector tests pass; hosted execution remains after independent review and protected landing.

client-go 0.37 extends the Discovery return interface, which broke the metrics test double in grouped dependency PR #1977. Use the real discovery client over an in-memory HTTP transport so the fixture follows the selected client API without losing metrics and error assertions.
Upgrade only the coordinated Kubernetes modules and their selected transitive dependencies. Leave the unrelated grouped updates unchanged and check cohort alignment in local runtime orchestration, including mixed and incomplete negative cases.
Change-source: pulse-maintainer
The exact release tree retains a failed paired UUID benchmark check, while push CI cannot repeat that comparison. Provide a reviewed-source route to collect the requested four-condition hosted layout evidence instead of repeating local samples or changing product order.
Fix source/tree/toolchain identities, isolate diagnostic controls, alternate ten rounds, and retain partial receipts without publishing binaries. Execution still needs separate operator authority; collection success does not dispose of the failed gate. Nine focused harness tests and existing benchmark contract tests pass.

Record executable SHA-256 before measured Go test invocations without logging paths or arguments. Preserve sample ordering and failure status; document instrumentation limits rather than dismissing historical regressions.

PR #1933 failed paired normalization benchmarks despite unchanged hot-path source. Preserve actual checkout identities, selected toolchains and sample order so investigation does not confuse PR head metadata with measured source. Keep thresholds and sample collection unchanged.

PR #1921 targets release/v6.4 but receives only docs and boundary checks because build and E2E triggers still name the historical release branch. Include versioned release trains for push and pull request events without changing job gates or path filters. A focused regression fails all four event/workflow combinations before repair and passes after it.

Exercise real SSH signatures from an untrusted key and the trusted key under an unrelated namespace, for both manifest and installer. Keep checksum content valid so these regressions specifically protect signature trust selection.

The stable-install smoke body is intentionally workflow_call-only so its read-only continuity caller and draft-capable release caller can supply different explicit token budgets. Treat that exact no-override shape as an auditable permission boundary while continuing to reject independent triggers and job permission overrides.
Validation: 41 workflow-trust tests, repository workflow audit, focused install-smoke contract tests, Python compilation and diff checks pass.

The security workflow moved to the scoped npm audit retry runner, but its

The benchmark gate compared five-sample PR results with a cache produced on
another hosted VM. Two unrelated changes failed today while the same main code
passed, and benchstat reports infinite 95% confidence intervals for that sample
size.
Collect ten base and candidate samples on the PR runner in alternating order,
retain both inputs and the comparison, and reject under-sampled verdicts. Keep
non-PR benchmark evidence without the cross-run baseline cache.
Contract-Neutral: CI performance evidence collection only; no product or release contract changes
Change-source: pulse-maintainer
The retry hardening added in #1885 bounded attempts but not time. npm's own
fetch-timeout defaults to five minutes and it retries internally, so three
"attempts" against a hanging advisory endpoint ran for 10m56s on job
100986651307, and a second audit step added 3m36s. The Frontend job was
cancelled 31s into type-check with all 1183 test files already passing, and a
cancelled job reports as a failed required check, so a green run blocked every
pull request. #1888 raised the job timeout to 40 minutes to unblock delivery;
this decides the policy instead.
Each attempt now runs under a hard wall-clock bound and the sequence stops at
a total deadline (60s and 240s by default). npm's internal retry loop is
disabled in favour of this one, since it was the hidden multiplier. The bound
is enforced by a watchdog subshell rather than timeout(1), which is not
present on every developer machine.
What happens when the endpoint stays unreachable is unchanged, because that
split was already right: the run fails when the change touches the dependency
graph and the answer is genuinely unknown, and warns without failing when it
does not, because the graph is then identical to a base commit that already
produced a passing answer. Any advisory at any severity still fails.
Also drops the production-only audit from the per-pull-request path. It audits
a subset of the same packages, so it reports a subset of the same advisories,
and because the complete audit fails the job on any finding, the production
step could only ever execute in the cases where it was already guaranteed
clean. The dev-versus-production split still runs for every npm workspace in
the scheduled security-scan job, where it informs rather than blocks delivery,
and Dependabot security updates remain the route for advisories published
against unchanged dependencies.
With the audit bounded to 4 minutes against an ~11 minute baseline, the job
timeout returns to 30: a stalled endpoint should surface as a warning, not be
absorbed by a budget large enough to hide it.
Replace the remaining Node 20 action pins before GitHub removes that runtime, and make the reviewed Node 24 pins a workflow trust invariant.
Change-source: pulse-maintainer
Retire the unused self-hosted live qualification workflow and reject future secret- or write-capable jobs on persistent or dynamically selected runners. Keep live Patrol qualification as a disposable lab operation.
Change-source: pulse-maintainer
On 2026-09-03 registry.npmjs.org returned 503s and then timeouts from its
bulk advisory endpoint for over an hour. `npm audit` exits non-zero both
for a real advisory and for an endpoint it cannot reach, so the Frontend
job failed four times running and, because it is a required check, no
pull request could land at all - including Go-only ones that touch no
JavaScript. Every one of those failures was the outage. In two of the
runs the other audit call in the same job succeeded and reported zero
vulnerabilities.
The audits now run through scripts/npm-audit-retry.sh, which separates
the two cases and does nothing else. A conclusive result is acted on
immediately, and the gate stays exactly as strict as before: any
vulnerability at any severity still fails, and no severity threshold is
introduced. Only an unreachable endpoint is retried, with backoff.
When retries are exhausted the outcome depends on whether the answer is
actually unknown. A change that touches frontend-modern/package.json,
frontend-modern/package-lock.json, or the runner itself fails, because
the dependency graph moved and no result means no answer. A change that
touches none of them warns and continues, because the graph is then
identical to the base commit that already produced a passing answer.
Advisories published later against unchanged dependencies are what
Dependabot security updates are for, not a per-pull-request audit.
Deliberately not done: relaxing the severity threshold. That was my first
instinct, but the evidence does not support it. None of the four failures
was an advisory, the lockfile reports zero vulnerabilities at every
severity, and a threshold would have weakened the gate without fixing
anything. The contract's rule that audit suppression is not a valid
closure stands.
The pinning test now requires the runner's invocation and the dependency
detection wiring, and additionally asserts the runner carries no
--audit-level flag, so the strictness cannot be quietly traded away
later.
