getCookieSettings auto-set SameSite=None on the session and CSRF
cookies whenever a request arrived via a trusted proxy with
X-Forwarded-Proto: https. The original intent was "be more permissive
for proxied deployments," but in practice that disabled the
browser-side CSRF defence for every Pulse deployment behind a reverse
proxy — which is nearly all of them.
SameSite=None tells the browser to attach the cookie on arbitrary
cross-site requests. That is only required for cross-origin iframe
embedding scenarios Pulse does not document or support. The
top-level-navigation cases that actually matter (OIDC/SAML callback
landing, Cloudflare-tunnel access from a bookmark) all work under Lax,
which still attaches cookies on top-level navigations and only blocks
cross-site sub-resource requests.
Always return SameSiteLaxMode. The Secure flag still tracks the
actual connection state via isConnectionSecure(r). Together with the
earlier CSRF bypass fix (require token regardless of Authorization
header), the browser-side and server-side defences are now both in
place.
Test expectations updated: three cases that previously asserted
SameSiteNoneMode for the proxied-HTTPS / Cloudflare-tunnel / direct-
TLS-with-Forwarded paths now assert SameSiteLaxMode, with comments
flagging them as regression coverage.
Make direct CheckAuth failures return explicit auth-required responses while preserving route-specific auth errors through shared response capture.
Align API contract tests with uncapped self-hosted monitoring, route-local config import/export auth, and marketed entitlement upgrade reasons.
Major changes:
- Add audit_logging, advanced_sso, advanced_reporting features to Pro tier
- Persist session username for RBAC authorization after restart
- Add hot-dev auto-detection for pulse-pro binary (enables SQLite audit logging)
Frontend improvements:
- Replace isEnterprise() with hasFeature() for granular feature gating
- Update AuditLogPanel, OIDCPanel, RolesPanel, UserAssignmentsPanel, AISettings
- Update AuditWebhookPanel to use hasFeature('audit_logging')
Backend changes:
- Session store now persists and restores username field
- Update CreateSession/CreateOIDCSession to accept username parameter
- GetSessionUsername falls back to persisted username after restart
Testing:
- Update license_test.go to reflect Pro tier feature changes
- Update session tests for new username parameter
Add tests for sliding expiration session validation and no-auth
configured scenarios. These test explicit paths for better coverage
documentation even though they were already exercised indirectly.
Add comprehensive direct tests for the CheckProxyAuth function covering:
- Not configured (returns false)
- Invalid secret (returns false)
- Missing secret header (returns false)
- Valid secret without user header configured (returns true, admin)
- Missing user header when configured (returns false)
- Valid auth with username (returns true with username)
- Role checking with empty roles header (defaults to admin)
- Role checking with admin role present (returns admin=true)
- Role checking without admin role (returns admin=false)
- Custom role separator (comma instead of pipe)
- Role with whitespace (trimmed correctly)
Coverage: CheckProxyAuth 89.3% → 100%
Add comprehensive tests for the ValidateSession wrapper function covering:
- Non-existent token (returns false)
- Empty token (returns false)
- Valid token (returns true)
- Expired token (returns false)
The ValidateSession function is a simple wrapper around the SessionStore's
ValidateSession method, but having direct tests ensures the wrapper is
exercised and documents its expected behavior.
Coverage: ValidateSession 0% → 100%
Tests for detectProxy, isConnectionSecure, getCookieSettings, and
generateSessionToken functions. Covers proxy detection for various
headers including X-Forwarded-For, CF-Ray, Forwarded (RFC 7239),
and secure connection detection via TLS and proxy headers.
