Without the mark, 5.1 reads the file in the system code page and the
ellipsis on line 136 decodes into something that swallows a quote, so the
script does not parse (MissingEndCurlyBrace at line 133) and package.ps1,
which runs it with the shell it was started from, fails after building
the MSI. pwsh reads UTF-8 either way.

INSTALLPDFCONTEXTMENU defaulted to 1 on every install, so an upgrade without
INSTALLPDFCONTEXTMENU=0 brought "Edit with PdfCraft" back. It now works like the desktop
shortcut since #1570: no static default, and a SetProperty after AppSearch turns it on for a
first install and, for an update, only while the menu's key is still in HKLM. A value on the
command line still wins.
"Create PDF with PdfCraft..." for the ten image types moves out of PdfcraftApp into its own
PdfcraftImageContextMenu component, gated by a new INSTALLIMAGECONTEXTMENU that defaults and is
remembered the same way. Moving the rows is safe because MajorUpgrade removes the old version
before installing (afterInstallValidate).
The PDF menu first shipped in 0.7.1 and the image menu in 0.4.0, so a missing key can also mean
the installed release never had it. OnlyDetect Upgrade rows (PDFCONTEXTMENURELEASE,
IMAGECONTEXTMENURELEASE) tell those apart, so updating from 0.6.0 still adds the PDF menu.
test-msi.ps1 evaluates the SetProperty and component conditions for the desktop shortcut and
both menus (first install, =0, update with and without the item, =1, and an update from a
release without the menu), and checks the registry searches, the Upgrade rows, that no image row
is left in PdfcraftApp, and the RemoveExistingProducts scheduling.
README documents the three properties, pinning the SHA-256 because same-version MSIs replace
each other silently, and the signing identities (checked against the v0.7.1 files).
docs/releasing.md and the misc.installers parity note follow.

The launcher installs and updates PdfCraft with `msiexec /passive` and no properties, so
INSTALLDESKTOPSHORTCUT always took its default of 1 and every update put the shortcut back,
even for users who had deleted it. The property no longer has a static default: a SetProperty
after AppSearch turns it on for a first install, and for an update only while PdfCraft.lnk is
still on the all-users desktop. A value on the command line still wins, and the full-UI
checkbox still starts ticked on a first install.
test-msi.ps1 checks the action runs after AppSearch in both sequences and evaluates its
condition for first installs, updates with and without the shortcut, and
INSTALLDESKTOPSHORTCUT=0.
* M14: "Edit with PdfCraft" on the File Explorer menu of PDF files (#682)
The Windows MSI adds a classic shell verb under
HKLM\Software\Classes\SystemFileAssociations\.pdf\shell\PdfCraft.Edit that
runs "pdfcraft.exe" "%1" with the app's icon. It appears whichever app is
the default for .pdf and never changes that default. On Windows 11 it is
under "Show more options": a first-level entry needs an IExplorerCommand
handler and package identity, which an MSI doesn't have.
MultiSelectModel is Document: several selected PDFs (up to 15) start one
launch each, and the existing single-instance hand-off opens them as tabs
of one window.
The verb has its own component, conditioned on a new secure public
property INSTALLPDFCONTEXTMENU (default 1, a welcome-dialog checkbox,
INSTALLPDFCONTEXTMENU=0 for unattended installs), following
INSTALLDESKTOPSHORTCUT. Its menu value is the key path, so uninstall
removes every value. The portable zip still registers nothing.
test-msi.ps1 checks the compiled Registry, Component, Property and
CheckBox rows, and that the .pdf default is never written. Docs: README,
docs/releasing.md, parity notes, ROADMAP log.

Release builds said "Text recognition isn't installed: its models are
missing" because no packaging script or release job fetched the OCR
models: only `cargo xtask models` does, into the source tree.
- packaging/env.sh gains stage_models DEST, which runs
`cargo xtask models DEST` (every ATTRIBUTION.toml kind = "model" file,
SHA-256 verified, with its licence text). No model file is named, so
the models PRs #433/#572 add ship without packaging changes.
- `cargo xtask models` also writes ATTRIBUTION.txt crediting each model
(CC-BY-SA-4.0 requires attribution when redistributed).
- macOS: PdfCraft.app/Contents/Resources/models, before signing.
- Windows: models\ beside pdfcraft.exe in the MSI (WiX v5 <Files>
harvest) and the portable zip; test-msi.ps1 checks the folder.
- Linux deb/rpm/tar.gz/AppImage, Flatpak bundle and FreeBSD tarball:
share/pdfcraft/models beside bin/. Models::search_dirs now also looks
in <exe dir>/../share/pdfcraft/models (Models::dirs_beside_exe); a
test builds every package layout on disk and finds the models in each.
release.yml and freebsd.yml check the packages contain them.
- The missing-models messages no longer tell end users to run cargo,
and the 11 catalogs that keyed an old PRINTCRAFT_MODELS wording (or
the previous one) now key the current English text; ATTRIBUTION
hashes updated. A test checks the translations match.
The web (wasm) build, which the issue reports, still has no models; this
is the desktop half only.

* #143: Windows MSI desktop shortcut checkbox and install-complete dialog
Add native installer dialogs (installer-ui.wxs): a welcome screen with a
"Create a desktop shortcut" checkbox (ticked by default), repair/remove,
progress, and "Setup completed successfully" / failed / cancelled screens
with Finish. Unattended /qn and /qb installs never wait on a dialog and can
skip the desktop shortcut with INSTALLDESKTOPSHORTCUT=0.
Start Menu and desktop shortcuts are now plain links to pdfcraft.exe in
their own components (HKLM key paths, removed on uninstall) instead of
advertised MSI shortcuts.
test-msi.ps1 checks the compiled MSI's shortcut, checkbox and dialog tables
during packaging; the ARM64 install smoke test checks both shortcut
targets, their removal on uninstall, and the INSTALLDESKTOPSHORTCUT=0
opt-out.

* #143: run test-msi out of process before signing; add files-in-use dialog
test-msi.ps1 held the MSI open through a Windows Installer COM handle in
package.ps1's own process, so signtool could fail on signed release builds.
Run it in a child process and release the COM objects.
The hand-authored UI had no MsiRMFilesInUse dialog, so an upgrade or repair
while PdfCraft is running could not offer to close it. Add one (OK closes the
programs with MSIRMSHUTDOWN=2, Cancel stops setup) and check for it in
test-msi.ps1.
