When joining a meeting that already has many participants, new
participants are now muted by default.
This is an empirical change, not directly requested by users but
informed by user experience: a lot of people joining large meetings
arrive with their microphone and/or camera open, which can be
painful for the host, who otherwise has to mute everyone or ask
everyone to mute. Many of these participants are inattentive but
still noisy.
If you are joining a room that is already at a certain size, you are
probably not the one expected to speak; presenters typically join
among the very first participants.
Enhancements to the German localization include:
- Refine phrases to sound more natural
- Ensure consistency in words usage
- Adapt phrases to be inclusive and gender-neutral
- Standardize to the "du" form of address, aligning with modern
practices and other open-source projects like GitLab and the Android
Open Source Project
Work adapted from PR #859 and partially extracted to ship as a
smaller, focused PR.
This allows users to view the full list of available shortcuts.
An editor to customize these shortcuts may be introduced later.
Based on a request from our European partners, introduce new languages for the
transcription feature. Dutch and German are now supported, which is a great
addition.
It closes#837.
WhisperX is expected to support both languages.
Add a key feature allowing users to choose the language
of their transcription via a setting.
The default value is set to French, the most commonly used
language across our user base.
Users can still select English or “Automatic,” which re-enables automatic
language detection if no default is configured on the microservice.
Adopt unified switch component pattern for notification preferences to
enable future addition of descriptive text per notification type,
improving consistency and providing clearer explanation capability
for notification behaviors.
Allow users to opt-out of idle participant disconnection despite
default enforcement, trusting power users who modify this setting
won't forget to disconnect, though accepting risk they may block
maintenance configuration updates.
Add configuration option allowing users to set maximum video quality
for subscribed tracks, requested by users who prefer manual control
over automatic behavior.
Implements custom handling for existing and new video tracks since
LiveKit lacks simple global subscription parameter mechanism. Users can
now override automatic quality decisions with their own preferences.
Introduce select option allowing users to set maximum publishing
resolution that instantly changes video track resolution for other
participants.
Essential for low bandwidth networks and follows common patterns across
major videoconferencing solutions. Users can optimize their video
quality based on network conditions without leaving the call.
Introduce new video tab in settings modal requested by users who found
it misleading to lack camera configuration options in settings.
Currently implements basic camera device selection. Future commits will
expand functionality to include resolution management, subscription
settings, and other video-related configurations.
Implement settings option to enable/disable noise suppression with clear
beta indicator. Label will be removed after production battle-testing.
Note: Settings styling needs polish, will address in future commits.
Implement German translations throughout the application to better serve
German-speaking users. Expands language options beyond existing French,
English, and Dutch to improve accessibility for German counterparts.
Inspired by GMeet user experience. Offer a sound tester button
to our users while configuring their audio output.
uprise.mp3 has a free license. We should credit them in our legal
terms asap.
First draft, it lacks important features, as a visual indicator when
the mic is active, and a trigger to test the audio output.
I made some heuristics (e.g. default output/input, etc..) to ship a
first version of this setting tabs that should work good enough to
create value for our current users.
Please refer to the inline comments.
User can now update their name in a dedicated Account tab,
inspired by Jitsi design. Removed the username dialog.
Account-related updates will be operated through the advanced
settings dialog, in this dedicated tab.
This component should be the definitive layout for settings.
Why extended? I kept the original one, which is still in-use in the
homepage, and considered this settings dialos as an extended version,
or advanced one.
I hope in a close future, we merge these two dialogs to avoid
maintaining too much code. Not the top prio.
Relevant TabPanel components will be introduced in the upcomming commits.
Reintroduced user information in the settings dialog. This change allows
users to see the account they are logged into, which is important for
account management. An additional feature to update usernames will be
added soon. Apologies to @manuhabitela for the oversight.
- show the header on homepage. Not sure we want any header on this app
actually but I guess he's right since we have one it feels more
consistent to have it everywhere
- show logged in email in header. ditched it because i didn't quite get
the value of showing it all the time in this app but i guess it's better
than nothing
- remove user info from settings. Since they are back in the header, no
need
