UNITRONIX 0874d4f3d9 chore: transition project license to AGPL-3.0
Updated the entire project to AGPL-3.0, including all components and documentation. The stable releases up to v3.3.x will remain under Apache 2.0 until the next major feature release. Withdrawn and recreated French and Traditional Chinese translations under the new license. Updated relevant documentation and changelog to reflect these changes.

BetterDesk Sponsor Commercial Grant

Optional benefit for selected supporters. Default license: AGPL-3.0.

Self-service — no paperwork, no audits. GitHub Sponsors billing (or honorary status) is the only check.

In one sentence

AGPL applies to everyone. A Commercial Grant (copyleft exception for your private deployment patches) applies to Bronze Sponsor ($50/mo) and above on GitHub Sponsors, plus Honorary Supporters — not to $5/$15 tiers or Buy Me a Coffee.

Support channels (see SPONSORS.md)

Channel Price Commercial Grant
Buy Me a Coffee One-time
Buy me a Coffee $5 / month
🍕 Pizza Fuel $15 / month
🏢 Bronze Sponsor (Backer) $50 / month
🚀 Silver Sponsor $100 / month
👑 Gold Sponsor $200 / month
Honorary Supporter (e.g. INSOLVE) Custom

What the grant allows

While eligible sponsorship is active, the organization may:

  • Run modified BetterDesk (private patches, branding) for internal or client use,
  • Without publishing those private modifications under AGPL,

provided they:

  • Do not resell BetterDesk as a standalone product (OEM),
  • Keep upstream features merged into the public repo open for everyone (SPONSORS.md).

Activation: active GitHub Sponsors subscription at $50/month or higher, or Honorary Supporter status. Ends when sponsorship ends. No certificates.

Zero admin for the maintainer

  • No license keys, endpoint counts, or audits
  • No contracts (unless you ask for a large deal later)
  • No guaranteed SLA — priority triage is best-effort when time allows

Upstream vs your deployment

Public BetterDesk repo → always AGPL, always open
Your private deployment → grant = private patches OK (while eligible)

Future paid commercial license

May be offered later for OEM / special cases without sponsorship. Not required for normal sponsor use today.

Questions: GitHub Issue — replies when the maintainer has time.
