wasAuthenticated was written AND read during render (the only such
case). Historical per-mount state belongs in useState, adjusted during
render via the guarded official pattern — behavior-identical: the value
is only consulted in !isAuthenticated renders, which can only follow a
render that already set it. Auth-gate control flow (auto re-login,
loading early-return, post-login return URL) untouched.

react-hooks/refs: 26 -> 0. Lint ratchet 115.
